Convert CIMB Bank Statements to Excel — Complete Guide
Step-by-step for CIMB Clicks and CIMB BizChannel statement PDFs — current, savings, fixed deposit, and business accounts, plus how to handle multi-currency exports and batch uploads.
CIMB issues statements in PDF for both personal banking (CIMB Clicks web and the CIMB OCTO App) and business banking (CIMB BizChannel). This guide covers how to convert either into Excel, what to expect from the output, and how to handle the few cases where CIMB statements diverge from the usual Malaysian layout.
Heads up: CIMB has been migrating customers from the CIMB Clicks app to the CIMB OCTO App since 11 June 2024, and selected Clicks features (including fund transfers) were retired in December 2024. If you still see the Clicks app on an older device, the recommended path is to upgrade to CIMB OCTO. The CIMB Clicks web portal at www.cimbclicks.com.my is still available and exposes eStatement downloads for personal accounts.
What a CIMB statement PDF contains
A typical CIMB personal current or savings statement, downloaded from CIMB Clicks or CIMB OCTO, includes:
- Account header — account number, account holder, statement period.
- Opening balance from the previous statement.
- Transaction rows — date, description, transaction reference, debit or credit amount, and a running balance.
- Interest, fees, and withholding tax entries grouped at the foot of the statement.
- Closing balance at the end of the period.
CIMB BizChannel business statements follow the same skeleton. The differences are usually in the description column (more counterparty detail) and a longer transaction history per statement period.
Converting a CIMB statement to Excel
- Download the PDF from CIMB Clicks web, CIMB OCTO App, or CIMB BizChannel. For personal banking, log in at www.cimbclicks.com.my, then either go to My Accounts → View/Download Statement, or open Services → eStatement → View eStatement. The CIMB OCTO App exposes the same statements under each account. For business banking, log in at cimb.bizchannel.com.my and download the eStatement for the relevant account. Avoid print-to-PDF — it sometimes compresses the layout in a way that drops the running balance column.
- Upload the PDF to Transift. Single statement or a batch — both work. You can upload several CIMB statements at once: Transift groups them into one CIMB batch, stitches statements of the same account number into a continuous timeline, and puts each distinct account on its own sheet in the resulting workbook.
- Review the parsed transactions. The review screen shows every row before you export. Check that dates, descriptions, references, and amounts look right.
- Run the balance continuity check. Opening balance plus the sum of transactions should equal closing balance. Any mismatch is flagged inline.
- Download the Excel file. Each account lands on its own sheet, with debit/credit columns aligned to the original statement layout.
Verifying the output
Before the Excel reaches your books, run two quick checks:
- Balance continuity. Compare opening balance plus the sum of transactions to the closing balance, per sheet. Transift runs this check automatically — if you used the tool, the review screen already told you whether it reconciled.
- Statement-period coverage. The first transaction date and the last transaction date in Excel should match the statement period header. A mismatch usually means a multi-page statement was truncated during download.
When to skip the conversion
If your CIMB statement is a paper statement you scanned, or an older statement that was issued before CIMB offered PDF downloads, the PDF is image-based and will not parse cleanly. An OCR-based pipeline is the right tool for those.
For everything else — current, savings, fixed deposit, multi-currency, and CIMB BizChannel business statements — digitally-generated CIMB PDFs convert cleanly into Excel. (Transift does not process CIMB credit card statements.)
If you have a CIMB statement to test with, sign up for Transift — it is free during the open beta, and you can run your first conversion in under a minute.
